Location: Saint John, NB

This project involves the extensive conservation and restoration of the 1915 original sandstone and granite Prince William Street façade and later year brick masonry addition.

Stone repairs were performed including stone grafts (Dutchman), stone resetting, composite stone patching, stone rubbing and fracture repairs using stainless steel rods.

The existing brick masonry façade of the Annex building received widespread removal and replacement of brick masonry units which were sourced from New Brunswick and Ontario to establish the most suitable match. Large portions of the existing mortar joints were repointed throughout.

Structural steel repairs were executed by welding new steel plates to the existing steel frame structure. Masonry walls were stabilized using Blok-Lok stainless steel helical ties.

The wood windows on the Prince William Street façade were restored by scarfing new wood to match the existing and grafting larger wood pieces where the rotting was extensive. The wood windows were repainted and caulked following the completion of the wood restoration. New copper flashing was installed throughout the building.
