Project: Confederation Building
Location: St.John’s, NL
Owner: Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Heritage Consultant (Prime): Ron Fougere Associates Ltd.
(Sub): Jokinen Engineering Services

This three year project involved the extensive removal and replacement of the existing brick masonry façade on the building which houses the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. All areas of the building are scheduled to be 100% repointed with new mortar to match the existing in colour and finish.

All existing limestone frieze, plinths, window surrounds and other architectural features were removed and replaced with new St.Marc limestone from Quebec. The new limestone was anchored to the building using specialized Cintec anchors.

Atmospheric staining was addressed by means of wet abrasive cleaning using carefully selected aggregates and precise units of pressure.

The entire building is scheduled to be wrapped by system scaffold and a specialized tarping system.
